How to Prepare for the CompTIA CySA+ Certification

Here’s how you can prepare yourself for the CompTIA CySA+ certification.

What is the CompTIA CySA+ Certification?

Cyber Security Analyst+ (CySA+) is a new certification in the CySA family that covers the in-depth knowledge required of cybersecurity professionals in the growing field of security analytics.

Why should I prepare for CySA+?

The CySA+ is the only certification that validates an individual’s ability to apply security analytics to real-world problems using industry-standard tools, methodologies, and best practices, for instance.

What skills do I need to pass the CySA+ exam?

The exam also covers a wide range of topics from basic security concepts to advanced security analytics techniques, including the use of open source and commercial technologies. Besides, the exam consists of multiple-choice questions and simulation items.

In addition, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the integration of multiple tools and technologies, along with advanced analytic concepts such as incident impact analysis, risk scoring, and statistical analysis.

Are there any prerequisites to take this test?

There are no prerequisites for taking this test, but candidates must have two years of cumulative paid full-time work experience in one or more of the eight job roles related to information security as defined by CompTIA as well as a strong foundation in cybersecurity principles and terminology.

In addition, candidates must have a minimum of one year’s experience performing security analytics activities using at least two industry-leading SIEM tools and have a thorough understanding of one open-source log management tool.

Is the CompTIA CySA+ Difficult?

Many students find the CySA+ exam challenging. In addition to multiple-choice questions, the exam includes several hands-on simulation questions. Besides, examining logs and command-line output is the most difficult part of the exam for most people.
